The Truth About Ourselves #4

(If you are new to this blog or have not read them all, they are in reverse order from the last blog to the first blog.  I recommend reading and pondering them in order so as to follow the path of purpose of this journey of your HEART and Life Story.)

Stories lead us to discover truth—perhaps truth about ourselves or about our futures.

Spend a minute or two thinking of one story that you’ve heard or experienced that has continued to impact your story.

Rocky III
In the movie Rocky III there is a training session on the beach. He has flashbacks of past fights which brings back the pain and agony of the ring, and Rocky is unable to continue.  He asks his wife why he was lied to and why his old coach made him think he was better than he was.  For the first time in his life he admits he’s afraid.  Adrian tells Rocky that unless he sorts out his fears and problems, he won’t be able to move on.  He has to try, even if he loses.

How has Rocky’s past affected the way he’s facing his future?

Why is it important to understand what’s behind you before “straining toward what is ahead”?

What are you afraid of?  Is there anything you’re really afraid of losing?  What can help you overcome your fear?

Have you ever known someone who loved you enough to talk to you truthfully and lovingly?  How did that impact you?

Are you beating yourself up over your past?  How can you stop?
